Programmer - Minimum Qualifications

Traditional Education and Experience:

• MS in computer science, or related technical field – 0 years experience
• BS in computer science, or related technical field – 0 years experience
• AS in computer science, or related technical field – 2 years experience

Expected Level of Independence:

Given detailed instructions, must be able to write functional code.

Minimum Demonstrated Skills:

• Ability to write code in at least 1 high-level programming language
• Familiarity with at least one operating system
• Ability to test and debug their own code
• Sufficient proficiency with English to receive and understand verbal instructions, and to present technical questions in a clear, concise manner

Pluses:

• Experience with Visual C++, C# and Visual.Net
• Experience with SQL databases (writing queries, building/modifying tables)
• Experience with SQL Server and/or Oracle

Senior Programmer – Minimum Qualifications

Traditional Education and Experience:

• MS in computer science, or related technical field – 2 years experience
• BS in computer science, or related technical field – 3 years experience
• AS in computer science, or related technical field – 6 years experience

Expected Level of Independence:

Given detail design documents, must be able to write functional code to QMSI standards.

Minimum Demonstrated Skills:

• Ability to code in multiple high-level languages
• Ability to install and configure at least 1 operating system
• Ability to test and debug code written by others (without re-writing it)
• Ability to perform software integration tests from written test procedures
• Knowledge of at least one database product
  • Ability to create tables and stored procedures
  • Proficient with SQL – ability to query and manipulate test data in a database
• Ability to identify need for, and ability to develop test programs for module testing critical code segments
• Ability to prototype development for new technologies
• Good familiarity with network structures and tools

Systems Analyst – Minimum Qualifications

Traditional Education and Experience:

• MS in computer science, or related technical field – 4 years experience
• BS in computer science, or related technical field – 6 years experience
• AS in computer science, or related technical field – 10 years experience

Expected Level of Independence:

Given functional design documents, must be able to develop detailed design and direct programmers in code development for small systems, or for subsystems of large-scale systems.

Minimum Demonstrated Skills:

• Ability to install and configure operating systems, databases and other layered applications and resolve problems with installations
• Ability to develop functional design specifications for small systems, or for limited parts of large systems from requirements design documents
  • Must be proficient with documentation tools
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of QMSI design document standards
• Ability to manage technical groups and small projects
  • Ability to assign tasks to individuals
  • Ability to resolve technical design issues
  • Ability to enforce programming standards
  • Ability to enforce project schedule
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies, including:
  • high-level languages
  • database products
  • operating systems
• Ability to develop full-scale databases, including:
  • database design
  • index tuning
  • data warehousing
• Ability to develop hardware drivers
• Ability to interface with customers for day-to-day issues
• Ability to write proposals for small projects
• Ability to debug complex, multi-system problems
